ISO 17021-2006 and the definitions from the ANAB for
all of the new requirements.
This standard is for the registrars (auditors) to adhere to.
In the past they had Guide 62 which was a guideline document, now
they have to adhere to the requirements listed in 17021-2006 (by
September 2008). "Section
9.1.9-notes” that talks about electronic audits.
This new standard says that Electronic “Off-Site” audits are
Acceptable. Part of an
initial audit has to be on site, but the stage 1 pre-assessment (new
requirements) and all surveillance and even re-certification audits
can be electronic. We
are so excited that our customers who use CIS may drastically reduce
their auditing costs due to travel and hotel expenses and your employee
participation time in audits.
We can now claim that if a company uses CIS to implement their
system they can reduce On-Site audit time by more than 80%!
This standard is for all registrars so it doesn’t matter who the
company’s registrar is and with this new requirement, they can have
their surveillance audits done electronically (no travel expenses,
hotels, and auditors in their building) if they use CIS that provides
instant access to all of their records.
We are certain that the registrars (auditing companies) will
require some time to become certified to this new standard and to
establish their own procedures and processes for electronic audits. We
suggest that you contact your registrar and express an interest in this
new requirement so that they will be motivated to comply far earlier
than September 2008.
